Artist notes: Using an #F pencil, I sketched out the basics. When the drawing was completed I inked with Staedtler pigment liners and touched up places with white Japanese ink. Then I scanned the drawing and did more cleanup work using Photoshop 7.0. Next I added the various screentones to the shirts, wall, bow and antlers. Many of the screentones' opacities were adjusted to between 8% and 30%. I scratch-built the pattern for the wrapping paper using a shape provided in PS as a base and adding bits and pieces to it. The facial screentones were done by painting various web-safe greys on top of the drawing (using new layers) then taking the opacity down to around 39%. Gradients were made for the eyes. The 'outside' was made with a variety of filters, including the motion blur. The addition of the two kinds of snowflakes, airbrush dots and a snowflake font, completed the image. Two Japanese fonts were used for the text, katakana for the words "happy holidays" (happî horideizu)and "Santa" (sannta) and hiragana for the word "from" (kara).

This was the planet's Xmas card for 2003. It was saved at 150dpi and printed on postcard stock. Some recipients thought Shiyuu was a girl, of course!
