Oni, Sage and Tenshi in Blissful Slumber
Talon & bakayaro
onna had been corresponding off list for a while when one day Talon sent
bakayaro onna
a story to read, "Cold Snap", a story not yet posted on
any list or site. "Cold Snap" is based on Dasia's still
unpublished a/u story which includes Talon's Sage chara. bakayaro onna was
inspired to draw
after reading the following paragraph from Talon's excellent story:
A
few hours later, anyone passing by Vegeta's room could peek in on
a very kawaii scene
Sage snuggled deep between his two favorite
people, their arms and tails crossed protectively over him, the room
fairly vibrating with the trio of sleeping purrs, Vegeta's slight
skip creating an oddly soothing rhythm. Not even Pan, who would brave
hell, high water and noodles to sleep with "my 'Geta" disturbed
them
and the rest of the household hoped desperately this was
one more brick laid in the foundation of getting Vegeta to let Goku
move in.
-quoted
with Talon's permission
The
entire story is posted exclusively at Joules' site Wordwrights-The
Zone,
along with the coloured version of the image below.
I highly recommend anyone interested in excellent fics and art
to apply for a password to gain access to this site.
Warning: parts of the password-protected
section of the site contain yaoi, yuri, lemon and hentai.

This
was the first completed pencil drawing I have ever done of any anime
chara. As you can tell, it is not done in the anime style but in
my style.
It took about five days, including the tweaking. The biggest challenge
was translating two-dimensional anime charas to three dimensions.
I also came up with my new signature at this time. If you cannot
tell, it is a large letter O with the word 'baka' inside.
I
wanted to finally have a finished piece to be proud of, and to send
to Talon. Let's just say she liked it okay. *dodges Talon throwing
lemon tarts*
Anyway,
Talon then informed me the story would be posted at Joules' site
and Joules had asked Talon to ask me permission to post the artwork
with the story. I must admit I was flattered and a bit embarrassed
because Joules's site only has highest standards when it comes to
the quality of writing and artwork residing there. So after about
a half-second of hemming and hawing I said yes.
I was finally
officially 'published' in the DBZ community. I NEVER thought this
would ever happen to me.

This
was my first attempt at colouring a drawing in the computer using
my Wacom tablet and the airbrush tool in Photoshop. I used the part
of the technique shown on Dynotaku's
site, where the drawing is moved from a layer to a new channel.
This allows the artist to paint under the lines and not screw up
the drawing lines and shading.
After the initial colouring I sent the image to both Joules and
Talon for their feedback. Joules suggested making Vejiita's hair
and skin darker. I was able to darken both bodies and shade Vejiita
a bit darker by first sampling the skintones off various canon art
and fanart. I also cleaned up the background and all the edges around
the charas, especially around the hair. The finishing touch was
to add a scan of a screentone to the pajamas and fading it out so
it was not too harsh and the fabric folds showed through.
I
came up with a computer graphic of the new signature in a variety
of sizes.
The second edition of the coloured drawing was then sent to Joules
and Talon for their next round of feedback. The consensus by all
was the second edition was better than the first coloured edition.
Joules decided to replace the black and white version of the drawing
with the coloured one and that is the one currently residing on
her site with Talon's story.
