This was an exercise in eyes and hair.

Two head shots, separate, on the same page, but hopefully the image will imply they are looking at each other. This is what happens when drawing one head first, seeing room is available for the other on the page and the muse makes the demand to just continue drawing.

This started out as just a study of S and I was working on trying to get S's eye (once again) down. Damn it, that boy gives me fits every single time. Those blasted cow eyes are a pain in the ass to draw consistently, no matter what angle I attempt. I looked at a doujin in the bathroom for an eye shape, then walked back to the bedroom, laid down and drew it. I was fighting S's eye on another pic for a few months during this drawing as well. Ugh.

I do not seem to have the same problem with Eiri's eyes. Well, for this pic I did have to reference the manga because of the particular angle, but everything else I did straight from memory and it was all in place before I put in the eyes. I must admit I impressed myself drawing the three-quarter view. It gave me confidence to tackle the Saiyuki boys as oekaki soon after this drawing was completed.

I am debating separating the two drawings if I use these headshots to illustrate a story. S's neck is a little short but when I drew him I actually envisioned him with his shouldered hunched a little, like he is listening to the very serious conversation from E. E is revealing something important and personal to S, and the weight of it all is pressing down on S.

Now, before you think it is something terrible being revealed, let me tell you my take. E is opening up to S in a good way, unburdening a little more of that shattered soul to his lover, and continuing the slow healing process.

So this ended up being headshot studies with an emphasis on the hair and eyes.

The cg was pretty simple; just few lines to help frame the two sections of text.
